Hello, I'm Alexandra Pikunova, an artist based in Munich, and this is my blue visual diary.
The central themes of my works are Brutalist architecture and abstraction. Both are grounded in the precise science of geometry, yet they are simultaneously shaped by the artistic discipline of composition. In geometry, there is no room for chance - every line and angle is subject to formulas and mathematical laws. Composition, however, introduces a fascinating duality, where rigid rules coexist with the freedom of emotion and subjective beauty. It is within this interplay that I find intrigue. I am drawn to creating abstract works inspired by architectural forms, and equally I like to reimagine
architecture through the lens of abstraction, where my creations reshape the very structures that first inspired them. Through the deep blue of my cyanotype pieces, I hope to convey the same sense of permanence, strength, and quiet beauty that I find in Brutalism. I invite viewers to see these buildings and monuments not just as relics of a bygone era, but as living works of art - poetic and powerful in their simplicity, inviting reflection and appreciation for the balance they embody. For me, blue is not just a color - it is a language of its own. It evokes both tranquility and intensity, symbolizing the balance between chaos and order that I strive to capture in my work.
